Device Experience Configuration

Use the device experience configuration to customize device look and feel and allowed apps.

This configuration can be set at the organization, site, or group level. If a device experience configuration exists at multiple levels, devices will use the configuration at the lowest hierarchical level they belong to (group > site > org). If a device belongs to multiple groups, it will use the configuration that was most recently applied. For more information, see The Liminal EMM Hierarchy.

The apps shown on the preview device are only placeholders. To manage apps on the device, see App Management Articles.

General

Orientation

Select the orientation of the device to view while editing the configuration.

This does not disable auto-rotate. It is included so that you can see how the device will look in either orientation.

Templates

Plain: Only End Shift and Admin buttons are visible overlaying the app tray.

Banner: Adds a customizable banner to the top of the screen. This is often used to display an organization or site logo. Click the gear button that appears when this template is enabled to upload a banner image. We recommend using an image with a height of 58px.

Banner + Info Bar: Adds an info bar that displays device details, in addition to the banner. Click the gear button that appears when this template is enabled to customize what information is shown. This information is often useful for troubleshooting device and connection issues.

Device Layout

List: Displays available apps in a list view.

Grid: Displays available apps in a grid view. When this option is enabled, the Layout Columns setting can be used to adjust the grid density.

Apps

Allowed Apps

These apps are accessible on devices. If an app is installed on a device (for example, as a pre-installed android app), if it is not in this list it will not be visible or accessible.

Apps in this section are accessible only when installed on a device. Adding them to this list does not install them. For information about pushing apps to devices, see Pushing Apps to Devices.

Known Apps

Apps that have been added via the Add New App section are shown here.

Click the ellipsis button next to an app and select Add to Allowed to approve it. This section functions as a library of approved apps.

Add New App

Enter the package name of an app to approve it for use on your devices. For example, the package name of the pre-installed android calculator is: com.google.android.calculator

This is functionally the same as whitelisting an app. Added apps are moved to the Known Apps section, but aren't accessible on devices until they are moved to the allowed apps section.
