Enrolling a Device

Depending on how you have licensed Liminal EMM, you may have multiple options for how to enroll devices.

  • LiminalMDM only. You can enroll devices via Android Enterprise. You can still install the Liminal Launcher from the Google Managed Play Store, but, without LiminalTracker, it will only act as a launcher and not all features will be available.

  • LiminalTracker only. You can enroll devices via the Liminal Launcher. The launcher will need to be installed on devices via direct file transfer.

  • Both LiminalTracker and LiminalMDM. You can enroll devices by enrolling them with Android Enterprise, then use the Google Managed Play Store to send the Liminal Launcher to devices. You still have the option to install the Liminal Launcher via direct file transfer if desired.

Android Enterprise Provisioning and Enrollment

This feature only works if you have an Android Enterprise bound to Liminal EMM. For more information, see Android Enterprise Settings.

This option brings your devices into the Liminal console via Google services. You can also configure basic, first-time setup settings on your devices.

Configuring the Provisioning Profile

  1. In the Liminal EMM Console, navigate to [Site] > Site Management.

  2. Select the Android Enterprise sub-tab.

  3. Click the Edit button .

  4. Select any of the options you want to apply to devices.

  5. Enter any locale or time settings you want to apply to devices.

  6. Configure any Wi-Fi settings you want to apply to devices.

  7. Click Save.

Provisioning a Device

  1. Power on the device.

  2. Tap the device screen repeatedly until the scanner activates.

  3. In the Liminal EMM console, navigate to your site, and select the Site Management tab.

  4. Select the Android Enterprise sub-tab.

  5. Scan the QR code with the device.

Print this QR code for easy provisioning away from your computer.

(Optional) Sending the Liminal Launcher to a Device

  1. Navigate to your organization or site, and select the Apps tab.

  2. Click Add Application.

  3. Search for Liminal Launcher by GiGiLTech.

  4. Click Approve.

  5. Review the required permissions, and click Approve.

  6. Select how you would like to handle new permission requests from the app. New permission requirements can be added by the app developer via app updates.

  7. Click Done.

  8. On the Apps tab, click on Liminal Launcher in the app list.

  9. In the Application Configs section, click Add.

  10. Leave all Runtime Permissions on their default settings.

  11. Use the Install Options tab to configure how the app will be made available on devices.

    • Kiosk. The device boots to the app, and it is the only app accessible to non-admin users.

    • Force Installed. The app is automatically installed on the device.

    • Required for Setup. The app must be installed during first time set up.

  12. In the Configuration section, enter the server and enrollment information for your Liminal EMM server. You can go to [Site] > Site Management > Environmental Properties to see these values.

  13. Enter a name for the configuration.
  14. Click Save Config.

  15. Hover over the config in the list.

  16. Click the menu button, and select Enable.

  17. Click Deploy Policies for [Site].

  18. Click Confirm.

Direct File Transfer Enrollment

  1. On your PC, download the Liminal Launcher APK you received from your account manager.

  2. Connect the device to your PC.

  3. Transfer the Liminal Launcher APK to the root folder of the device.

Configuring the Liminal Launcher

To configure the Liminal Launcher with your Liminal EMM server information, you can scan an enrollment QR code or transfer an enrollment file to the device.

Option 1: QR Code Configuration

  1. Power on the device.

  2. In the Liminal EMM console, navigate to your site, and select the Site Management tab.

  3. Select the Liminal App sub-tab.

  4. Scan the QR code with the device.

Option 2: Encrypted File Configuration

  1. In the Liminal EMM console, navigate to your site, and select the Site Management tab.

  2. Select the Liminal App sub-tab.

  3. Click Download Enrollment File.

  4. Connect the device to your PC.

  5. Move the enrollment file to the root folder of the device.
